Hedging

As growers we have ready access to the best quality trees and shrubs, enabling us to supply, plant or restore almost any type of hedge, from the traditional mixed native Saxon to the more basic Quickthorn. As always, we aim for the highest standards, and strive to exceed those set by the Countryside Stewardship Scheme.

Saxon Hedging Mixture
The traditional English hedgerow, this mix is based upon a 60% Hawthorn content supported by a mix of different varieties of other native shrubs.

Quickthorn Hedging
A fast-growing and simpler alternative to the Saxon, the Quickthorn creates a very effective Hawthorn-based barrier.

We are able to supply stock for your own planting, or carry out a full supply and plant service. It is important that new hedging is planted in well-prepared conditions, and we have equipment available to do this.

Although Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds are well known for their drystone walling, these boundaries can be costly to repair. Hedging, together with appropriate livestock fencing when necessary, is often a more economic means of field enclosure, and offers additional benefits to wildlife and the environment. Nicholsons has installed new hedging in many of the surrounding counties, including Buckinghamshire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Gloucestershire, Berkshire, Wiltshire and Worcestershire.
