The
Nicholson Nurseries Spring Open Day 2007
took place on Saturday April 21st.
It
was a fabulous occasion, marked by warm sunshine,
clear blue skies, and the wafting aroma of barbecued
bacon. Well over 500 people visited the nursery between
10:00am and the official closing time of 2:00pm, although
there were still clusters of late-comers milling around
long after the gates had closed!
The
plants looked at their fresh, spring best, with lush
green foliage and a riot of blossom and blooms, and
judging by the queues for the check-out, the prices
were proving popular too.
Even
bigger for this year has been the extensive display
of Italian topiary and specimen plants, with one of
the main greenhouses stacked full of cone, globe,
lollipop and spiral-shaped topiary. The Plant Centre
itself also contains a wealth of new and interesting
stock, ranging from the wholly practical (trugs, tools
and materials) to gift ideas and a great range of
wooden planters and terracotta pots.
The
main barn was converted into a refreshment centre
for the day, complete with childrens' play area. The
various Nicholson divisions also had stands, and members
of staff were on hand to answer questions on forestry,
landscaping and general horticulture.
We
have created three more photographic galleries to
illustrate the day. One contains general images of
the Open Day, showing visitors and staff admiring
the plants and wandering through the displays. A second
gallery features photographs of the Nicholsons staff
at work, while the final collection is of the plants
themselves. Click on the picture links below to visit
the three pages, and once there, click on any image

These
images, taken on a warm April day, make an interesting
comparison to the Autumn Open Day, staged in October
last year. Click on this link
