Nicholson's Spring Open Day for 2008
took place on Saturday April 19th.
Despite
grey skies and a dismal forecast, the nursery was
starting to look busy within minutes of the gates
opening. The main car park was soon full, and later
visitors were directed to the overspill behind the
large barn. Luckily, the rain held off, and most of
those searching the aisles for their favourite plants
and shrubs escaped with little more than a light drizzle.
Once
again, the format for the Open Day had changed subtly
since last Spring, but the refreshment tent was as
popular as ever - particularly with Jean's enticing
selection of very original herb-inspired biscuits
and scones on offer. The chill wind also kept people
scurrying back for warming cups of tea - the choice
following the gardening theme, with mint, camomile
and other infusions on offer.
The
nursery looked especially neat and tidy this year,
and the staff had been busy for days, perhaps weeks,
ensuring that the stock looked its best. Everything
was correctly labeled and signed, and the displays
of terracotta, topiary, specimen trees and garden
ornaments looked especially eyecatching.
Nicholsons'
twice-yearly Open Days are always enormously popular,
and several hundred visitors passed through the gates
to explore the nursery this Spring. We have created
a fresh gallery of photographs to mark the occasion,
and hope you find something here to interest you.
