We now stock an extensive variety of fabulous Italian topiary.

These specimen plants have all been lovingly tended over several years and beautifully trimmed, offering a bewildering array of ball, cone, spiral, pompom and "lollipop" shapes ranging from small and compact (at less than 1 metre) through to lofty mature specimens nearing 3m in height. Just a small selection of the smaller examples is illustrated here.

Photo by Marcus Potts/CMC Many are based upon tight-leaved box, or yew, but a number are from more exotic stock, including holly, maple and olive.

Considering the age of some of these topiary specimens - a spiral-trained yew can take eight to ten years to achieve the dense foliage and smooth contours of some of our larger examples - we think the prices are extraordinary, with prime examples starting from as little as £30, and a seven-foot spiral might cost no more than £70.

To compliment our topiary and specimen shrubs, we have also introduced an extensive range of terracotta pots, planters and tubs.

We searched far and wide to source terracotta of a suitably high standard and with excellent frost-resistant qualities, and our stock originates not only from established workshops in the UK, but also from the traditional home of terracotta in Italy. What better to set-off Italian topiary!

Photo by Marcus Potts/CMCThese are available through our Plant Centre, which also offers a wide array of gardening "sundries", from soil conditioners, composts and fertiliser, to tools, basketware, spring bulbs and irrigation equipment. The Plant Centre is open Monday to Friday, from 7:30 in the morning through to 4:00 in the afternoon.

Autumn Gallery
When this page was originally prepared, winter was in full swing and the deciduous trees were bare of leaves. The gallery below offered a reminder of what the garden looked like only a short while previously. These photographs were taken in October and give just a small taster of what there is to enjoy in the garden as summer comes to an end. Click on any of the thumbnails to view an enlargement.
